Event Description
Our final event of the season is going to be a cracker. Don't miss out.
April is poetry month so we'll have a little extra poetry in the open mic for you, but as always it's open to everybody no matter your genre. Make sure you arrive on time to get a spot!
This month's features:
AARON EL SABROUT is leaving UVic with a degree in English. An active member of UVic Pride and the Students of Colour Collective, he was The Warren Undergraduate Review's inaugural Gender Studies Editor and Social Justice Advisor. Aaron will be in conversation with Joey Takeda about his research on the work of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, commemorating Edward Said. Particularly, his work engages with discourses of nationalism and Arab poetic traditions.
Joey just finished his degree in English Honours (Gender Studies minor); he was an Executive Editor at the Warren this year as well as Editor in Chief of The Albatross. He's also a junior programmer at The Map of Early Modern London.
KAITLYN THOMPSON is poet living in Vancouver, BC, where she studies at BCIT. She graduated last year from UVic with a degree in Writing and Political Science.
JOSHUA ZAPF is a creative essayist with work in The Malahat Review.
