Bowie-themed drinks, for dear Bowie
Nikki's Bowie story: At age seven, my father introduced me to The Labyrinth. This must have shaped me, because as a teenager, my first boyfriend strongly resembled Bowie on the cover of Low. At the time (2001), I expanded my knowledge of Bowie to include Earthling, Let's Dance, Ziggy Stardust, and Diamond Dogs rather than just the soundtrack to The Labyrinth. Absolute Beginners and Heroes became anthems to my teenage love story and even after my romance ended with my boyfriend, my romance with Bowie stayed strong. I have since bought or recieved nearly every Bowie album and maintained a steady (borderlining on unhealthy) obsession with Bowie. One of my partners once asked "Do you ever go a day without mentioning Bowie?" and funnily, I actually don't think I have. As Lou Reed and the other musical kings have passed away, I was sorry that I wouldn't hear them play live, but nothing has gutted me like the death of Bowie. I feel that without him, a magical part of the world no longer exists. He was the most inspiring, creative and groundbreaking artist I have ever discovered. He was my musical and fashion idol, my ultimate crush, my obsession. But maybe we can keep some of the magic alive by listening to his records and referencing him in every day life. Let's honour Bowie by listening to his amazing collection of music and try not to smudge our lightening bolts with tears.
