In partnership with Camobear Records and Dreameyes Productions Sista’Hood 05 will feature an evening of Hip Hop and Spoken Word.
Kia Kadiri
Kia Kadiri has become a west coast phenomenon. Drawing on hip hop, jazz, funk and soul to create a sound that is truly universal, she has emerged as a stand out artist from a scene that has produced some of this country's most exciting urban artists. Her album Feel This marks a bold step into the spotlight for an artist whose time has come.
Eternia
Siren's Echo
From the belly of the city thorns Portland Oregon emerges Siren’s Echo, a long awaited union between Oldominion’s Syndel and Hungry Mob’s Toni Hill. They have shared the stage with such notable artist as Xzibit, Blackalicious, GZA, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, Dilated Peoples, Swollen Members, Ras Kass, Common Sense and Erykah Badu, amongst others. With their magnetic chemistry on and off stage, Siren’s Echo is sure to become more than just another brick in the wall.
Kimberly Shaughnessy
Teen angst poetry grows up, drops out of college, comes out of the closet and finds buddism. Kim is the illegitimate child of Courtney Love and Shirley Temple, and has been performing spoken poetry for two years. Kim was one of the semi-finalists to make the 2004 Vancouver poetry Slam Team and represented Vancouver at the 2004 Toronto International Poetry Slam this summer.
Rachel Flood
Rachel Flood has been performing at and producing events in Vancouver for over five years. She has been featured locally at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, the Vancouver Poetry Slam and Under the Volcano; and internationally at the Berkley and San Diego Slam. She has shared the stage with the likes of Medusa, Michael Franti and Siren's Echo to name but a few. Rachel has an independently produced a Chapbook and CD and is also included the Coastal Tongue Anthology-Westcoast Women in Rhyme and the Westcoast Poetry Festival Compilation CD.
