Event Description
The First Unitarian Church of Victoria has another concert in their Jazz Vespers Series, located at 5575 West Saanich Road, February 14th (Sunday), 7-8 PM. Valentine Sunday, February 14th, is the first Spirited Jazz Vesper of 2016 and features the Craig Henderson Trio. Craig is a 20 year-old singer/pianist from Victoria, B.C. He fronts a jazz trio, accompanied by his father, guitarist Gordon Henderson, and his first jazz piano teacher Bill Kent, on bass.
They perform swinging tunes from timeless artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and others who have shared the same love of the Great American Songbook. As well as performing as a featured trio in the Fairmount Empress 2015 season, they have been playing Vista 18, Pags, Hermann's, and a variety of venues, including private functions/events and clubs throughout Greater Victoria.
You and your Valentine will love the Craig Henderson Trio and the spiritual message as a Valentine Day treat.
Jazz Vespers evenings are constructed around a theme, which is reinforced and underlined by the songs chosen and the words spoken. Each vespers is led by the musicians performing and Rev. Shana Lynngood, a minister whose backup career choice would be jazz singer. This style of jazz vespers allows time and space for music to speak to the soul.
Enjoy jazz with a splash of spiritual inspiration in venues with exquisite sound and setting. These hour-long evening services are a unique blend of jazz and spirituality. Each service brings together live music from popular local jazz musicians, a brief meaningful message, and some information about the history of the music.
