A blend of ethereal folk, electronic-inflected grooves and heavy-hitting climaxes echoes the complex soundscapes of progressive indie bands like Half Moon Run, Alt-J and Radiohead. Formed in 2014, Goodwood Atoms grew out of the scene at Vancouver’s Juniper Room, an underground studio and performance venue that has been the brainchild of frontman Francis Hooper. What began as an acoustic collaboration between Hooper and bassist Joe Pooley grew into a rich tapestry of sound with the addition of guitarist/violinist Dawson Verboven and Berklee-trained drummer Justin Banmann.
2014 was a year of development for the band, who spent their first 8 months riding the wave of their participation in the PEAK performance Project, for which they were rewarded as one of BC’s top-12 bands. In 2015, their focus has shifted to the studio, where the band is recording their second EP in collaboration with Hey Ocean’s Dave Vertesi and producer Nygel Asselin, best known for his work on Half Moon Run’s certified-Gold Dark Eyes album. Due for a spring 2016 release, the Great White EP represents a more focused sound for Goodwood Atoms, employing deeper electronic instrumentation, richer vocal elements and themes that meditate on our increasingly technological relationship with reality.

If the Arkells and Joel Plaskett teamed up to ride a Band of Horses across the Western Provinces of Canada, you might get something that sounds like The Carlines. Though incomparable, they evoke something undeniably familiar; a kind of soulful folk-pop that strums at your heartstrings, even as it sets your toes tapping and your head bobbing.
Curated by songwriter Sjoerd Meyer, The Carlines produce a storytelling kind of writing mixed with catchy hooks and ear-worms, weaving seamlessly through acoustic folk driven songs and electric foot-stompers. They immediately captivate audiences with a live performance that playfully invites and disarms, leaving you feeling warm and free.
Being no stranger to the local music scene as a side musician (Mike Edel, Jordan Klassen), Meyer draws on his experiences and musical compadres to curate his own project into something entirely unique. The Carlines emerged onto the local scene with the release of 'Still The Sun Will Rise – EP' at the start of 2014, continuing the year performing dozens of shows, touring to Alberta on three separate occasions, and placing a 'Band of the Month' feature on Victoria's the Zone 91.3. They completed the year with a 14 date tour of the western provinces and charting #46 on the The Zone's Top 91 of 2014.
