Event Description
Barolo has been called the "king of wines," and the "wine of kings." It is one of the world's best wines and is made from only the very best Nebbiolo grapes, grown near the town of Alba in Italy's Piedmont. Barolo, a robust red, is full-bodied and very dry. It's high in acidity, alcohol and tannin. The aroma is similar to ripe strawberries, tar, roses, violets and truffles. It is a chewy wine. Barolo is best served with food. It nips the taste buds and enhances an exquisite dining experience.
And what better food to pair with Barolo then the luxurious and decadent cheeses of Italy? Most of us are familiar with some of Italy's everyday cheeses, but there are other varieties of Italian cheese to be discovered, all with an abundance of culinary possibilities. If French cheeses are best served preceding or culminating a meal, Italian cheeses are often woven into the fabric of dinner (or breakfast, or lunch). A whiff and a bite of meaty, oozing Taleggio or a sweet, creamy Robiola is proof the French have no monopoly on great cheese.
On the menu:
Andrew Moyer of Ottavio Italian Bakery and Delicatessen was born of a family tradition of Italian food since the 1920's and is a third generation family business started in 1997 by Monica Pozzolo & Andrew Moyer in Oak Bay. Andrew will lead you in an exploration of Italy’s diverse, nuanced, and exquisite cheeses.
