Event Description
Rebecca is a singer-songwriter from Victoria, BC. She grew up in a small town – Rossland – in the mountains of BC’s West Kootenay region; her music is infused with echoes of her past, woven with stories of present struggles and hopeful themes of life, love, and finding one’s voice. She has a voice that draws attention and provides the perfect canvas for her moving lyrics.
Rebecca’s debut EP, “My War,” was recorded at Oak Recording Studio in Toronto and released in July 2014. The short album is a summary of her struggles with anxiety and depression and the loss of her father. The album sets raw emotion to music and offers listeners the chance to embrace struggle and feel the beauty of hope. She plans on recording a full-length album in the near future that will showcase a new more upbeat sound.
Rebecca has been performing around Victoria and mainland/interior BC for the past five years. She has collaborated with local artists and bands including Man Made Lake, Awake in the West, Rob Armstrong and Lisa Nixon. She is currently playing with John Andrachuk and Michelle Taekema and together they bring a more lively folk/indie sound with hints of country. Rebecca has also joined local up and coming band Inez Pearl, recordings and show dates to be announced this spring!
Many instruments can be seen on the stage with Rebecca, including piano, violin, guitar, ukulele and harmonica. These instruments fit together with John Andrachuk’s rolling guitar and mandolin rhythms and scaling melodies. Michelle Taekema’s vocal harmonic stylings blend with Rebecca’s fierce and dynamic voice to bring a unique sound to the music scene in Victoria.
Songwriting is at the heart of Rebecca’s passion for music. She has expressed herself through writing for piano and guitar since 2001, and has also written violin interludes for her songs. Rebecca’s songwriting style varies from folk/indie/country songs on guitar to classical instrumental pieces on piano; her influences include Erik Satie, Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, and Emmylou Harris. Rebecca’s songs often reflect themes such as embracing and resisting change, coming of age, and the complexities of intense relationships. Introducing herself as Rebecca Lynn, she is a bright new voice, a soulful artist with something to say and her biggest hope is that the world is ready to listen.
