Ventis Insula Meridiem Symphonic Wind Ensemble
Event Description
Under the baton of Dr. George Corwin - retired professor of music (University of Victoria) the Ventis Insula Meridiem Symphonic Wind Ensemble is made up of local musicians and music educators of high quality performance ability.
The mandate of the ensemble is to be an interface between the high level musicians in the Victoria area and the nearly 3000 young music students between the ages of 10 and 18 that are presently studying music in this city. As musicians and educators in this community, the performers in this ensemble feel there is a tremendous need for mentorship in school music programs and have prepared this performance as a model of some symphonic wind for Victoria’s students and interested community members.
In addition to providing an exemplary education opportunity, Ventis Insula Meridiem also creates an incredible collaborative experience for the performers and inspires music lovers with high quality performances of outstanding repertoire written for symphonic wind ensemble.
Sponsored in part by the Greater Victoria School District, the Meridiem ensemble is performing a “by donation” concert at the Alix Goolden Hall in the Victoria Conservatory of Music building, at the corner of Pandora and Quadra Street, on Thursday, November 6th. The concert is themed, “Music of the Americas – A Celebration,” and will include outstanding performance, anecdotal conversation and impromptu humour as the ensemble relates music and band performance to an anticipated all ages audience.
