"Master Class: Mary Pinkoski" :: 12:00 - 2:00 PM :: $25 (limited space available)
Edmonton Poet Laureate, Mary Pinkoski, presents Writing Your Guts Out!
Guts are messy. Guts are awesome. Guts are terrifying. Guts are truth. Guts can be contained. Guts can be spilled. Trust your guts! Come explore how writing intersects with honesty, integrity and bravery in a workshop that aims to get you writing from the gut. All levels of writers encouraged and welcomed.
"Bigger Than A Trigger: A Dialogue About Safer Spaces, Oppression, and Challenging Content in Slam" :: 2:00 - 4:00 PM :: Free
A dialogue with Halifax Poet Laureate El Jones and Kitchener-Waterloo's Janice Lee that will touch on the artist's responsibility to their audience, engaging trauma through art, and managing the ensuing discourse. This event will also examine intersectionality and ways in which oppression occurs even in spaces - such as the poetry slam - in which artists purport to challenge it.
"CFSW Poetry Slam: Bout #3" :: 9:00 - 11:00 PM :: $12 (regular) to $7 (student)
Four teams compete in a four-round poetry slam competition judged by the audience. Poetry slam is an event in which poets must perform original works without the use of props, costumes, or musical accompaniment within a time limit of three minutes.
