The O’Brien Family Bio
Originally from the Midland’s in England, The O’Brien family came out to Victoria BC in 2004. Now the family have established themselves as one of the most exciting and fresh vocal and instrumental groups on the Island.
The family group really started at Paul’s [Dad] farewell concert in Birmingham 2003, when the three children joined Paul and the band onstage for an encore and stole the show with a rendition of Black Eyes Peas ‘Where is the love?’
Fast forward to 2014 and the family consisting of Millie [20] on lead Vocals, Cormac [18] String Bass, Piano and lead vocals, and Fintan [17] Guitar, Mandolin, Lead Vocals and Songwriting, and Dad, Paul [age unspecified] on Vocals and Guitar and Mandolin.
The family combines original songs written by Paul and Fintan, with imaginative arrangements of carefully chosen covers. The blend of the four voices has been the hallmark of the band.
Starting out busking on Government Street in Victoria has helped the family develop their live show, a live show that was celebrated in 2012 by two nights at the Alix Goolden Hall, where they played to a full house both nights, and released a live cd from the concert. The concert also featured a guest appearance from the matriarch of the family , Grandma Mary O’Brien who flew over from Dublin to play the fiddle!
The family have just finished recording their first studio album with producer Joby Baker .
The album is titled Blue Cottage Music, and has 7 original songs on it.
The family are delighted to be playing at Willows beach this Summer!
