In their final concert of the 2013-14 season, the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria is featuring string music by three of America’s “Late Romantics” composers.
Arthur Foote’s Suite in E Major, George Chadwick’s Serenade in F Major, and Victor Herbert’s Serenade Op. 12 are all melodic, beautifully structured and, of course, romantic. Indeed, the third movement of Herbert’s serenade is called “Love Scene”!
These works were written with the “old world” in mind, although Foote and Chadwick were part of the first generation of composers educated primarily in the U.S. The three composers, all born in the 1850s, represent a transitional era that was already looking ahead into “modernism.”
Conductor Yariv Aloni and the orchestra offer an entertaining end to their 14th season so don’t miss the opportunity to hear some wonderful chamber music.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
