Event Description

The Katie McNally Band featuring Ryan McKasson and Neil Pearlman
Guest Opening Act: Daniel Lapp's BC Fiddle Orchestra

Join Boston-based fiddler Katie McNally for an evening of bold and exquisite tunes bursting from the Scottish and Cape Breton traditions.

Described as "the new face of Scottish fiddling in the USA," Katie McNally grew up steeped in the vibrant Scottish and Cape Breton music community in Boston and is the 2009 New England Scottish Fiddle Champion. She was a student of Hanneke Cassel. Katie performs regularly with all-female Celtic band "Long Time Courting" has been a member of the New England fiddle supergroup "Childsplay" since 2009, and joined world-renowned Galician bagpiper Carlos Núñez on his tour of North America in 2012.

In her first tour of the Pacific Northwest, Katie will be teaming up with two of the most innovative voices in Scottish music in the US, local legend Ryan McKasson on viola and Boston-based pianist Neil Pearlman. Katie's evocative and melodic playing combined with Ryan's powerful harmonies and counterpoint - all anchored by Neil's rhythmically driving piano accompaniment - creates a uniquely arresting take on traditional music.

Guest Opening Act will be, "The BC Fiddle Orchestra." Now in it's 20th season, the BC Fiddle Orchestra began in 1994 when Daniel Lapp gathered his students and several BC 'mentors and accompanists' for a performance at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, BC. Since then it's been a breeding ground for many of Vancouver Island's top young violinists interested in 'fiddle music.'
