Solo, ensemble and vocal works of the eminent British composer, Benjamin Britten, commemorating the centenary of his birth. UVic faculty and guests present a program revealing the composers’ fascination with compatriots Henry Purcell and John Dowland, and a portrait of the composers’ vocal and instrumental works. A Britten Celebration includes three Purcell songs arranged by Britten, Songs from the Chinese. Op. 68, Nocturnal after John Dowland Op. 70, Lachrymae, Reflections on a Song of Dowland Op. 43, Introduction & Rondo Burlesca Op. 23 No.1, and the Sonata for Cello and Piano Op. 65.
