Event Description
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Grisha Goryachev is renowned for his extraordinary musical sensitivity and technical virtuosity in both classical and flamenco styles. Grisha is one of very few guitarists in the world reviving the tradition of solo flamenco guitar in a concert setting started by legendary flamenco masters Ramón Montoya and Sabicas. Creating his own interpretations of the old masterpieces, he uses dynamics and tone colors of the classical guitar.
Grisha began playing guitar at the age of six, studying with his father. Since his debut at the age of nine, he has performed regularly in the most prestigious concert halls worldwide. After hearing Grisha play, Paco de Lucía, the legend of flamenco guitar, took active part in his professional career. In 1997, Grisha was awarded an American visa on the basis of “Extraordinary Ability”, supported by many renowned guitar masters.
In May 2005 Grisha was awarded the prize for Best Performance of Spanish Music at the VI International Classical Guitar Competition "Julian Arcás" in Almería, Spain. In 2006, he became a fellow of the prestigious Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship, as exceptional in his chosen field.
Grisha successfully completed his Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he studied under famous guitar virtuoso Eliot Fisk.
