Event Description
Audiences will enjoy an intimate, bilingual, family-friendly show of approximately 90 minutes. Booklets with lyrics translated from French to English will be available. Alexis Normand will sing, play her acoustic guitar, ukelele and piano and will be accompanied by Gent Laird on upright and electric bass. The music is a groovy set with songs from MIRADOR, original jazz-folk, and a few cover songs such as Faith by George Michael, Twisted by Joni Mitchell and Straighten Up and Fly Right by Nat King Cole.
Fransaskoise jazz-folk singer-songwriter Alexis Normand will tour western Canada in September. The tour will follow the release of a new music video for “Le Ruisseau” on Aug 26th, and will precede the announcement of the winners of Saskatchewan’s Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards (LGAA). Since January, Normand has been recognized with two nominations at the Gala Prix Trille Or for Best Francophone Album from Western Canada & Best New Francophone Artist from Western Canada; a nomination for Francophone Recording of the Year for the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards; and has been short-listed for the 2013 Lieutenant Government Arts Award: Emerging Artist. Presented by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the LGAA awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of individuals, groups and organizations in all arts disciplines. Normand is currently a short-listed nominee.
Normand became an ambassador for the humility, grace, and perseverance of Canadians with how she managed the spotlight after her flubbed performance of the Star Spangled Banner at the 2013 Memorial Cup in Saskatoon. Overnight she became an international media darling, with live interviews and performances on CNN (Live with Wolf Blitzer), CBS (Inside Edition), WGN Radio Chicago and more. She looks forward to re-focusing attention to her music and live show with the fall tour.
