“A stunning piece of musical theatre…. high quality drama, first class singing” OUTSTANDING SHOW! 5 Stars – Fringe Review, Edinburgh Fringe, 2010
To celebrate Black History Month, Intrepid Theatre presents Tayo Aluko (UK) in “Call Mr Robeson” the rollercoaster journey through actor, singer and pioneer civil rights activist Paul Robeson’s remarkable life.
This ‘”simply-told but immensely powerful’ play (The Scotsman) highlights how Robeson’s radical activism caused him to be disowned and disremembered, even by the leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement and ‘helps to restore him to our collective memory, with great grace.’
With much fiery oratory and Robeson’s famous songs, such as Ol’ Man River, Tayo Aluko revives one of the 20th Century’s most impressive but overlooked figures in this powerful, compelling performance, which was seen at New York’s Carnegie Hall in February 2012.
Presented in cooperation with the BC Black History Awareness Society.
