A program of Romantic works by Beethoven, Schumann, Dvorak, Rochberg, and Chopin will feature cellist Paula Kiffner and pianist Gaye Alcott.
One of the most sought-after cellists in the Pacific Northwest, Paula Kiffner is also known to Victoria audiences as a member of the Galiano Ensemble, and through her performances at the Victoria Summer Music Festival and Eine Kleine Summer Music. She is a faculty member of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where she is Coordinator of Cello.
Victoria audiences were introduced to the brilliant musicianship of Gaye Alcott in August of 2003 at the Victoria Summer Music Festival. She has performed with several orchestras as well as in numerous recitals in the United States and Canada. She was also featured in the TV documentary "Which Way To Carnegie Hall?"
Ms. Alcott will be featured in two solo works by Chopin, the Nocturne in C# minor and the Scherzo #2 in Bb minor. The program also includes an exquisite work by American composer George Rochberg titled Ricordanza, based on a theme from Beethoven's great late sonata for cello and piano in C major, which will also be heard on this program. Rounding out the program are Schumann's Adagio & Allegro, and the wonderful sonata in g minor by Chopin.
