Event Description
On Saturday October 1st at 8pm, Colleen Eccleston takes to the Metro Studio to present songs from her latest album, The Garden of Chaos. While this is the first time in recent memory that Eccleston has presented a solo show, she'll be supported by a roster of high-profile musicians including Marc Atkinson (The Bills, Mark Atkinson Trio) and jazz-pop pianist/composer Karel Roessingh.
Colleen has been a mainstay of the Canadian folk scene for many years. Her versatile and powerful voice allows her to move effortlessly between folk and rock and has landed her numerous gigs over the years with a host of well-known folk musicians such as James Keelaghan, Grand Union & Valdy and has appeared in concert with such notable performers as Garnet Rogers, Mae Moore and Christine Lavin.
Many Victorians will best know Colleen as one third of The Ecclestons, who along with brother Kelt and Greg Madill have been playing what they like to call "full contact folk" for the past 14 years. What's less well-known is that Eccleston is also a professor at the University of Victoria where she teaches courses on the History of Rock & Roll and The Beatles. Most recently, Colleen wrapped up a 2-month tour with the Other Guys Theatre's musical revue Good Timber.
Colleen likens the songs in "The Garden of Chaos" as snapshots from her recent experiences. "I've come through some life-changing events in recent years that have left me more knowledgeable about who I am and more comfortable with my emotions. I think the ebb and flow of those emotions are pretty well-represented in these songs which range from ballads to edgier rock tunes."
