The death of Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex from breast and spinal cancer prompted us to organize OH CANCER! UP YOURS! with the intention of raising funds for research. By bringing together as many related charities and services as possible, we hope to make this the biggest, baddest, boldest cancer benefit Vancouver has ever seen.
While the death of Poly Styrene inspired this event, it is not in any way exclusive to her. Most, if not all of us, have lost loved ones to cancer, and benefits of this nature are crucial if we are to develop new and better treatments. The event has a decidedly feminine tone, but men should not in any way feel excluded. Cancer is an equal opportunity disease, killing both sexes indiscriminately. Help fight the scourge that has robbed us all.

- The LACE Campaign was launched in 2010 by the BC Cancer Agency and has grown into an effective and award-winning provincial campaign. It advocates for regular Pap screening for BC women, which can prevent most cases of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women under 45, but is highly preventable and treatable. Women who are screened regularly are at very low risk for cervical cancer. Pap tests save lives! During Pap Awareness Week 2011 (October 22-30, 2011) LACE will be encouraging women across the province to get tested at their local clinic.
- The Pink Tour (Mobile Mammogram Tour Bus) MAY EVEN be making a stop out front from 8pm-10pm. (dependant on parking permit availability) http://www.thepinktour.com/
- Canadian Cancer Society
Although cancer is very sobering disease, there is no reason for us to be miserable. Poly Styrene and cancer victims everywhere would like nothing better than to see us laugh in the face of this murderous bully. We intend to celebrate life as we search for answers. Join us.
