MIAMI DEVICE:
Miami Device is a 10-piece Afro-beat/Funk band based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Since their inception in 2007 the band has grown from a small four-piece funk experiment into the deep grooving, Fela Kuti inspired, boogiethon that exists today. With heavy driven horns atop syncopated guitars and layered percussion they produce a dance inducing, highly energetic live show. They have consistently been able to pack venues by building a word of mouth following consisting of whoever loves getting down and having a good time.
REDRICK SULTAN:
They are often compared to Frank Zappa, King Crimson & Mr. Bungle. The young quartet is currently recording their sophomore album and plan on more touring in the summer of 2011.
THE JEN HUANGS:
Their unique sound encompasses elements from nearly every decade of the 20th century, and employs numerous instruments to do so. With drums kicking, guitars licking, double bass going, trumpet blowing and accordion…accordioning. The Jen Huangs style of mariachi bluesabilly promises to shake things up and get crowds moving. An E.P slated for an early summer 2011 release leaves only one question unanswered – who is Jen Huang?
THE INTRUDERS:
Their loving blend of rock and roll, punk and blues produces a truly fresh and original style not heard in most music scenes today. Every member of the band shares the same unique tastes in music. They dig Delta & Chicago blues, 60s garage rock, southern rock, British Invasion, acid-rock, early punk etc.
MINUTE FUNK:
Minute Funk is about music, art, inspiration and the collective solidarity of all things creative. We aim to give opportunities and exposure to artists of all genres and mediums in and around the city of Vancouver. Minute Funk works independently, operating free of any constraints and misguided influences. Our broad artistic interests are not meant to garner an excess of collaborative efforts, but rather to attract those who are truly dedicated to their art form, regardless of their specific discipline. As we grow, we will continue to seek out new paths and alternative methods that will enable us to pursue our goal of serving the artistic community.
