. Saturday, April 24th IMU presents WALTZ DARLING, TYRANAHORSE, CINDERPOP & The FILM INDUSTRY @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Cover $10 @ the door
A TYRANAHORSE is a monster and monsters are good. Emerging on Pterodactyl Island, Tyranahorse is the best of human creation - the product of unbridled imagination, the dream of all dreams. When the beast was young she got hit and yelled at and learned to protect herself in self-destructive ways. When the beast was betrayed she had nowhere to turn and her loneliness was amplified. When the beast grew alone in isolation, she shed invisible skin and became a monster of dreams. http://www.myspace.com/TyranaHorse
WALTZ DARLING have entertained local audiences for years with their crazy musical journeys. Sustained by their passion for all styles of music, their Eastern European roots have always been woven into their songs. Atila is Hungarian while his cousin Robert hails from just across the Serbian border. Their disagreements are the stuff of legend and high comedy. Rich's background is Polish and German, while Michael's grandparents were Russian Jews who ran from pitchfork-wielding neighbors. http://www.myspace.com/WaltzDarling
CINDERPOP play inventive, harmony-drenched, guitar-driven songs that range from orch-pop and space rock to bouncy Beatlesque powerpop. Featuring alumni of The Salteens, Moev & SK Robot, their eclectic sound combines free-floating vocals with dreamy melodies and pulsing guitars to great effect. Having performed with artists such as Stereolab and Sloan, Cinderpop are taking things further and farther out with their new album "A Lesson In Science", which will be debuted live this special evening. "Cinderpop mines the orch-pop territory and makes it sound new, fresh. Kinda like The Left Banke meets The Zombies with XTC... It's all wickedly cool!" -- Soul Shine Magazine http://www.Cinderpop.com
The FILM INDUSTRY - Combining the liberating power of rock and a hypnotic approach derived from electronic roots, with a zest of jazz for good measure, The Film Industry makes your head nod with their trippy groove-oriented music. Featuring former members of OCEANIC, their electronic groove based music is a fusion of ambient guitars, samples and keyboard textures and take you on an irresistible journey of sound! http://www.myspace.com/TheFilmIndustry
