TALK'S CHEAP PRESENTS...
PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCT - http://www.myspace.com/petroleumbyproduct
- Killer, young, 3-piece post-punk/wave band from Vancouver. I've wanted to see these guys since I heard their tracks on the Emergency Room comp a couple years ago (they turned in my fave tracks on the album)...and after one failed attenpt to see them in Vancouver, and one failed attempt to book 'em into Victoria last year...I finally nailed 'em down to play Logan's. So, here we are...a couple years after recording their tracks for the ER comp, having changed members a couple times, altering their sound a bit a couple times, and pulling an "s" off the end of their name...PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCT turned in one of the best albums of the past year with "Superficial Artificial". Pick up the album...and come check 'em out live...

Here's a review of the LP from MAXIMUMROCKNROLL, March 2010
Petroleum By-Product - "Superficial Articificial" LP
During the late '70s, bunches of punks stepped away from the guitar, bass/drums attack and added keyboards (shock, horror). Some, like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Gary Numan, garnered a ton of media attention and promptly disappeared up their own arses in a puff of white face powder, taking with them all the no-mark imitators. The good shit from the dark synth-wave era was epic. I just got an LP of French bands from the late '70s put out by Frustration's label (another curent band not afraid of the synth), which is really groundbreaking and fucking great. This Canadian band is way less dark, but takes the very best elements of Tubeway Army and Penetration/Siouxsie-esque vocals and delivers it in a totally DIY punk way. I think this LP smokes. - Tim Brooks, Young Offenders for MRR

ANIMAL BODIES - http://www.myspace.com/animalbodies
- A two-piece Vancouver combo making high energy, modern sounds with a drum machine, synths and guitar. I've been playing the tracks on there Myspace page for a month or so now in anticipation of seeing 'em live.
NEW KRIME - Local, one-man, drum machine punk. Reverb, solid state buzz...and robot beats...something like this, but less screamy:
