Event Description
. Saturday, January 16th IMU presents The SUMNER BROS w/ DYLAN THOMAS & The GASTOWN ROYALS @ The Bourbon, 50 West Cordova . Early show 8-11pm sharp / Purchase advance tickets online @ www.imuproductions.com
The SUMNER BROTHERS have garnered an incredible amount of attention in the short amount of time they have been a duo. Mixing originals and covers into a laid-back country-Delta-blues-roots blender, they float between traditional country, blues and folk, with a dash of bluegrass thrown in, making for a very tasty musical recipe. Described as "Old Crow Medicine Show meets the White Stripes", their rockin, foot stompin, rustic-roots sound has been favourably compared to Stompin Tom and Johnny Cash. Come out and see why; Samantha Parton of The Be Good Tanyas calls them her "new favorite band", Tom Harrison of The Province Newspaper placed The Sumner Brothers latest release in his top ten local Albums of 2008 and Herohill.com (influential Indie-Roots Blog) placed the album in their top 20 Canadian albums of 2008! http://www.TheSumnerBrothers.com
DYLAN THOMAS' songs are an amalgamation of lyrics both eloquent and simple, but above all, an exploration of all that is real: love, truth and melody. From the crowds of the 2007 Brandon Folk Festival to playing an afternoon set at the Gorge Amphitheatre for rock idol Tom Petty in 2008, his successes also include a #1 debut on CiTR and inclusion in the Georgia Straight's 2008 Best of Vancouver. Joined by Your Vancouver Vipers, Dylan's vision has become fully realized with the presence of a full band. http://www.myspace.com/DylanThomasMusic
The GASTOWN ROYALS - Some of Vancouver's hardest working & partying Bourbon Pub staff deliver straight up contagious alt-country with sweet ass vocals, mouth harp, banjo, ukulele, guitars and percussion. Some of the band's many interests and influences include whittling, spittoons, rocking chairs, straw hats, horse drawn carriages, Clint Eastwood, scrappin'n'cussin, cornbread, neckin' (with their best gals of course), barroom brawling, homemade jam, bathtub gin and everything olde timey! http://www.myspace.com/TheGastownRoyals
