Event Description
Music of the Whole World Series
“Balinese Gamelan and Western Composition”
The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra presents a multi-part series on the ways that inter-cultural music has been, and is being, developed. Various musical traditions including those of Asia, India, Latin America and the Middle East will be explored through demonstration, lecture and discussion. Later programs in this series will be held in June, August, September and November, 2009.
In the third program of the series, composer Michael Tenzer will provide an introduction to both the Balinese tradition and his own intercultural music, which combines Gamelan and Western ideas.
The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra is a unique organization that brings together musicians trained in a wide variety of cultural disciplines to perform new inter-cultural works on a grand scale.
