Event Description
oe Locke is considered by many to be the most gifted vibraphonist in jazz today. “He’s a unique and adventurous musical voice,” lauds the San Francisco Bay Guardian. AllAboutJazz.com raves that “Joe Locke might just be this generation’s Milt Jackson.” Demonstrating his range, Locke has performed with a diverse group of musicians including Kenny Barron, Jimmy Scott, the Mingus Big Band, and Cecil Taylor. He was recently voted the No. 1 vibist in Down Beat magazine’s Critics Poll. Joining Locke in this cross-border collaboration is Vancouver’s smokin’ hard-bop sextet Ugetsu led by drummer Bernie Arai with Steve Kaldestad sax, Brad Turner trumpet, Rod Murray trombone, Ross Taggart piano, André Lachance bass. The program is Mode for Joes—the music of Joe Locke and Joe Henderson.
