The West Coast Harp Society presents Harpists' Tribute to Jurgen Gothe, featuring Detroit's acclaimed jazz harpist Christa Grix, Vancouver Symphony Principal Harpist Elizabeth Volpé Bligh and highly popular Winter Harp and more of BC's top harpists playing music ranging from classical to Celtic to flamenco! To spice up the mix, the harpists will be joined by a nyckelharper, drummer, bassist, erhu player and violinist and flamenco dancer Andrea Williams! They will perform a cornucopia of offerings worthy of Disc Drive at its best!
Beloved CBC broadcaster Jurgen Gothe is saying farewell to the award-winning Radio Two daily program he has hosted for 23 years. Harpists feel a special bond with Jurgen because of his evident appreciation of the harp, an instrument frequently featured on Disc Drive. INSERT: By frequently playing harpists' music, Gothe has helped to further their career. He has had a tremendous impact on the careers of Winter Harp and of Grix, the latter who is flying in from Detroit, so keen is she to thank Gothe for his support. This concert is the harpists' collective and fond good-bye and tribute to Jurgen. The concert is also a lead-up to the World Harp Congress in Vancouver in 2011.
The emcee will be Lucie McNeill, a former colleague of Jurgen's at CBC. Mission Hill Winery has donated an item for auction: a wine-tasting party with Jurgen Gothe with harp music provided by Elizabeth Volpé Bligh. We will also have door prizes!
