Event Description
. Saturday, Oct 25th I.M.U. presents STEPHEN HEDLEY CD Release Party w/ special guests MATTHEW MEI W/ YOU BRIGHT MINDS, SK ROBOT & WINSTON @ The Media Club, 695 Cambie . Doors 8pm / Purchase advance tickets online @ www.imuproductions.com
Come celebrate the launch of Stephen Hedley's debut CD "Scenes", featuring the soulful falsetto of 'Yellow Dog', the achingly beautiful 'Why Can't You Be Satisfied', and the sing-along rock choruses and disco undertones of the title track, joined by special guests SK Robot & Winston!
STEPHEN HEDLEY has attracted an ever-growing fanbase with his intense, genre-bending live performances. Crafting timeless, melodic pop songs that defy easy comparisons, his effortlessly soulful vocal style and guitar playing incorporate elements of blues, rock, jazz and folk. With an intuitive sense of melody and an ability to bring together diverse influences ranging from Neil Young and Jeff Buckley to U2 and Otis Redding, his songs are immediately gratifying and can be returned to time and time again.
MATTHEW MEI - Having traveled the world as the son of a preacher man, Matt's initial introduction to the world of music was his dads classical, old blues and folk records, but it was his struggles in life and his soulful growth that fueled his desire to write emotional and heartfelt songs. Matt teamed up with Jonathan Anderson (Jonathan Inc.) at Buena Vista Studios to create a thoughtful album that showcased some of his favorite songs he had written over the years.
S.K. ROBOT - Featuring members of Cinderpop, Bossanova, Speedbuggy, The Liars and Space Kid, S.K. Robot creates addictive harmony and hook-laden pop/rock that sounds both fresh and familiar.
WINSTON - Canadian singer-songwriter Winston doesn't take any shortcuts with his debut solo album, Limited. Recording the six-song EP on vintage analogue gear, Winston self-produced the new album without using any digital devices -- no computers, no Pro Tools, not even a digital guitar tuner. The result is his celebrated introspective alt-pop, only grittier and at times haunting. After forming a 4-piece band and releasing the critically acclaimed full-length CD Passengers in 2004, The Province's music critics picked Winston as a top local act alongside indie giants Hot Hot Heat and the New Pornographers. Winston has since gone solo with this album, recently signing with Canadian label Aquarius Records (Sum 41, Jeremy Fisher). "Winston's material is sophisticated enough to impress even the most jaded radio listener." -- Vue Weekly.
