Jazz Festival Sessions: Three Tuesdays in June at VPL
Jazz Festival Sessions give you a taste of the music, the history, and the magic of jazz. Join our jazz experts for lively presentations that will get you primed and ready for the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
This year the Sessions are introducing the launch of JazzStreet Vancouver, an online historical scrapbook about the history of jazz in Vancouver. JazzStreet Vancouver goes “live” on the World Wide Web June 20, 2008, the opening day of the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
Tuesday, June 10-- JazzStreet Vancouver: The Untold History with Chris Lee and Kevin McNeilly.
Bassist, harmonica player Harry Aoki will be interviewed by UBC Professor Chris Lee. Then pianist Paul Plimley and drummer Gregg Simpson will be interviewed by UBC Professor Kevin McNeilly about Vancouver musician Al Neil and his highly misunderstood career as a pianist, improviser and visual artist.
