Event Description

. Friday, December 7th I.M.U. presents PARLOUR STEPS, MATTHEW WALKO, PEPPER SANDS & JUSTIN HEWITT @ The Backstage Lounge on Granville Island (1585 Johnston St.) . 9pm

PARLOUR STEPS combine anthemic rock, expansive space-pop, experimental electronica and jazz into their own unique sound coined as Thought Rock. Equal parts rhythm, melody and epiphany, their music is both stormy and playful while unafraid of asking big questions and taking musical risks. Their International Songwriting Competition winning song "Thieves of Memory" can be heard on the Adidas website, the TV show "Whistler" and the Sonicbids Listen Vol. 2 CD. Expect to hear songs from their 4th & newest CD, "Ta Da!" (distributed nationally by Scratch Records) as well as some favourites from their first 3 CDs!

MATTHEW WALKO (formerly EDMUND) play intelligent rock/pop music inspired by artists like The Beatles, The Cure, Radiohead, The Smiths, Death Cab and David Bowie with dashes of Classic Rock/Motown/Blues thrown in for good measure.

PEPPER SANDS have always managed to present their own world of atmospheric, compelling sounds with a passionate approach. Having opened for 54-40, Sleater-Kinney and Matthew Good, the Vancouver quartet comes charging out of the gate with hyperactive tunes, staccato pop bursts and plenty of amped-up frustration. Citizen A's magnetic stage presence demands attention as she weaves an electric, connected web of melody and prose. Guitar giant Jay Slye is well armed to dole out aggressive riffs and ringing tones, sometimes drilling choruses and other times melting phrases with expert ease. Don't miss their exciting next chapter of sound!

JUSTIN HEWITT - Talented singer-songwriter Justin Hewitt is an intense, original and dynamic young artist with tremendous musical ability that delivers songs that range from powerful rhythmically driven tunes to to slower more artistic, unique and melodic songs. Raw, honest, thoughtful and emotional, this up-and-comer has been performing for over 10 years and is currently capturing international attention. Drawing from personal and life experiences, his songs are a complex mosaic of commentaries of love, life and the intricacies of personal relationships.
