Velvet Revolver is the real rock star supernova—a hard rock conglomeration involving three former members of Guns N’ Roses, one ex-Stone Temple Pilot, and a vet ’80s of hardcore punk act Wasted Youth. Together, Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan, Scott Weiland, and Dave Kushner make up one of the most exciting recording and touring combos of the day.
Contraband, the group’s 2004 debut, entered the Billboard charts at #1. Britain, Australia, and Canada also fell under the Velvet Revolver spell, as singles like “Slither” and “Fall to Pieces” (both of which went to #1 on the U.S. mainstream rock charts) and “Dirty Little Thing” continued to storm airwaves worldwide. Along with the chart success, the group’s rigorous touring helped sell two million copies of Contraband. Preceded by the hit “She Builds Quick Machines”, Libertad, the band’s follow-up, entered the Billboard 200 at #5. With the new record comes the Re-Evolution Tour, which promises to give rock fans what they want—sizzling hot, honest rock ‘n’ roll played with precision and passion.
Alice in Chains became one of the most famous names in grunge with its debut Facelift. The 1990 album epitomized the dark, moody sound which the Seattle group became famous for, and wich captured the imaginations of millions of listeners. Subsequent records such as Dirt and the #1 EP Jar of Flies kept Alice in Chains at the forefront of the hard rock scene. Following the band’s 1995 self-titled release and tour, however, Chains members went off in different directions. It wasn’t until after the untimely death of singer Layne Staley in 2002 that the remaining members considered getting together to play Alice in Chains material. With William Duvall joining them on vocals, the band played a series of low-key club dates. Now, as part of Velvet Revolver’s Re-Evolution Tour, Alice in Chains is ready to take back its rightful title as one of North America’s premiere hard rock acts.
