Event Description
The Black Angels are marching forward into battle for your souls.
Formed in May 2004 in Austin, TX, The Black Angels' psychedelically induced rock n' roll evokes the spirit of the 1960's while awakening the heavy droning rhythms inspired by The Velvet Underground. Picture a red moonlit night, deep in the heart of Texas, with the ghosts of Nico and Timothy Leary being called back from the dead to guide you on a journey through Heaven & Hell and back again. The Black Angels have just released the drone and roll masterpiece Passover on Seattle label Light In The Attic. The record has received great reviews including a 7.2 on Pitchfork and a B rating via Stylus Magazine.
Michael William had been in a couple Austin bands (bands that now hold legend status in the underground) when he met a musical soul mate of sorts in Joshua Garrett. As the two became close, Michael taught Josh how to play guitar and, soon thereafter, the core of VietNam was born. After one EP release on VICE Records, the band signed to emerging New York label Kemado Records and have released their self-titled debut. They also have put out 2 limited edition 12”s on the ultra-hip Social Registry label. 2007is the year VietNam enter the minds and souls of the “people”.
Lightning Dust is a new project comprised of Amber Webber and Joshua Wells of Vancouver Rock outfit Black Mountain. They will be releasing their debut release in June on Jagjaguwaur Records and will be touring this year while still working on the sophomore Black Mountain release.
