Event Description
. Friday, May 18th IMU presents PARLOUR STEPS & NEINS CIRCA DOUBLE CD Release Party with special guests The FEMINISTS & PENDER @ The MEDIA CLUB, 695 Cambie . 8pm / $10 - Get your advance tickets online at http://www.imuproductions.com/tix
THE FEMINISTS - An energetic, engaging combination of angelic vocals along with jangle-punk guitar and driving, emotive keyboards, The Feminists bring together a powerful combination of unpredictable, loud, and exciting sound. Jet engine chaos is instantly replaced by fragile, delicate beauty before leaping back to frenzied distortion: power-pop meets art-rock meets psychedelia meets emo-core. One of Vancouver's hardest working indie bands, The Feminists have charted on college stations from Nanaimo to Halifax, toured across Canada without an agent, manager or record label support, opening for bands like The Weakerthans and NoMeansNo. http://www.thefeminists.net
PARLOUR STEPS combine anthemic rock, expansive space-pop, experimental jazz and electronica into a sound that is equal parts melody, rhythm, and epiphany. Their last album release "The Great Perhaps" is an electrifying statement of beauty and art showcasing drastic dynamic contrasts. http://www.parloursteps.com
The NEINS CIRCA formed in 2002 as the Neins, and quickly become a live staple in the Vancouver scene. Singer Cameron Dilworth spins tales about escaping the city, the much-overlooked importance of friendship, and the power of music. Currently finishing up their much-anticipated follow-up to their debut CD "Sunday Anthems" with producer Caleb Stull (Parlour Steps) at the helm, expect beautiful intellegent musical offerings this special evening. http://www.theneinscirca.ca
PENDER is the musical equivalent of Neil Young's Crazy Horse and Wilco having a potluck with Nirvana and Evan Dando. A gathering of influences of country through punk rock, 80s synth to brit pop beats and a side of grunge for good measure served on unpretentious white paper plates. Named after the Vancouver street that's a backdrop for their musical and non-musical fun loving debauchery, vocalist Chris Kelly, guitarist Ryan Ogilvie, drummer Brett Galliford, keyboardist Lara Farcasan and bassist Derrek Kittson sizzle through a casual set that turns any scene into a fun party, combined with a sense of earnest vulnerability uncommon in today's modern rock. http://www.myspace.com/pendertheband
