Event Description
Victoria's 8th Annual Ska Festival is proud to announce one of the most eclectic, captivating reggae presentations in quite some time... This line-up will be jam-packed with talent with some of the best bands current and classic. LOS RASTRILLOS - an awesome reggae/dancehall/ska/Latin band from D.F. Mexico alongside THE ITALS from Jamaica will co-headline this most historic show.
THE ITALS will be making a surprise appearance on this show as they will be touring throughout North America. One of Jamaica's signature harmony groups, similar to Jamaican music legends such as Culture, the Mighty Diamonds and the Wailing Souls, the Itals were chiefly responsible for keeping the sound and spirit of roots reggae alive well into the dancehall era.
Paapa Wastik from Ghana, Mount Zion, Africa has a new album called "Thanks and Praise" coming on Tuff Gong this summer and doing tracks with Jamaica's Lutan Fyah Paapa Wastik is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Come out and see tear of the stage on this show!
The Drastics (Jump Up Records Recording Artist) are a nine-piece reggae/dub band that have been paving the scene in the Chicago area for quite some time. Their sound is both danceable and soothing at the same time.
Arbutus Trio - reggae/dub pride of Victoria BC have been playing steadily and improving in their scope and sound of their music since the summer of 2006. Their first large show was in Cortes Island opening for Columbia's La Severa Matacera and they continued that pattern into the fall playing with aritsts such as The Toasters and Chris Murray. After coming back from a national tour in March Arbutus Trio with the addition of Nathan Cummings of One Drop fame on the sound board will contribute nicely to this most special reggae/dub night!
