Event Description
on sale fri, 1/26 @ 10am
In a career that has spanned over three decades, Rickie Lee Jones has been many things. The hottest new act of 1979, a platinum-selling artist, pioneering video maker, fashion icon, Grammy Award winner, and a respected collaborator, Rickie has a restless spirit that has led her in surprising and rewarding directions. She countered the accessible bohemian pop of her debut with 1981’s ambitious, jazzy Pirates and an EP of covers, Girl At Her Volcano. Through such disparate, critically acclaimed discs as The Magazine, Flying Cowboys, and Ghostyhead, this uniquely gifted singer-songwriter has combined beautifully melodic compositions with a novelist’s eye for lyrical detail and story, and an adventurous musician’s ear for playing and arranging.
Many years after her first hit single, “Chuck E’s in Love”, Rickie is still producing brilliant music..” A 2005 anthology, The Duchess of Coolsville, was a reminder not only of Rickie’s extraordinary body of work but also her influence on other artists, such as Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, and many others. Her new album, The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard, is being called one of her best in years.
