Event Description
. Friday, November 24th IMU & CiTR present The Furios, The Highballs, Hot Breakfast & The Panic @ The MEDIA CLUB, 695 Cambie . 8pm / $10
The FURIOS deliver an irresistible blend of ska, reggae, and catchy punk with solid, memorable vocals and empowering, danceable anthems that range from head bobbin' slow skanks to all out, full throttle, pedal-to-the-metal ska romps. Featuring a three piece horn section complemented by distinct songwriters and vocalists, The Furios shine the brightest when seen and heard live. The six piece band rocks, jumps, bumps and dances through set after set creating a party atmosphere that has made them a favorite with audiences. With 11 Canadian tours under their belt and dates on last year's Vans Warped Tour, The Furios have shared stages with The Real McKenzies, Fishbone, Bedouin Soundclash, The Planet Smashers, DOA, The Smugglers and many others. http://www.thefurios.com
The HIGHBALLS are a "crashing 'n' bashing local group of fez-wearing Span-glish singing hombres [that] cuts across the whole Tex-Mex, border-rock tradition like Zorro's sword, going down as easily as a cold Corona with a mezcal chaser." With "chunky garage punk guitar riffs, blasting spanish trumpet and R&B saxophone solos, [they] will have ya dancing like jumpin' beans on a hot tortilla grill." - Stuart Derdeyn (The Province). "Pseudo-Spaniard party animals The Highballs have an addictive high energy quality to them. Within minutes the group had the crowd up and on their feet dancing to the mixture of wacky Mexicanised punk-polka originals and fun covers." - Sarah Murdoch (Exclaim! Magazine) http://www.myspace.com/wheresyourfezat
HOT BREAKFAST - A handsome posse of surf rock reggae cowboys who appreciate the rising sun and the pounding surf! Be sure to come out and see the band at their highly anticipated comeback show! http://www.hotbreakfast.ca
The PANIC bring thumping tunes, sanded chaos, a dancefloor and somewhere to be lost. Damn fine dirty ska-rock with evil funk inflections and a dose of unabashed twang. The Panic isn't about shoe-gazing or chronic heartache, glitz or splashy effects. The lyrics spring neither from a well of bottomless rage nor from an unquenchable need to shed vain tears. Bring dancing shoes and a will to move, fuel those moments with great songs and the right attitude. http://www.famousape.com
