The birth of Jazz as a particular form of music happened among the black people of the Southern USA during the time of their struggle from slavery to freedom. It expressed the pain of that struggle as well as the joy they found in their relationships with each other and their God Much of that music was first heard in the churches of the deep south.
Names like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington were central to the new movement. Still today, much of the blues, jazz and gospel comes from Louis' hometown of New Orleans.
At Jazz Vespers you will hear some of Vancouver's most acclaimed artists and meet people who share an interest in jazz as a contemporary form of music. It is a ministry to, and with, the local jazz community and appeals to many people who haven’t been inside a church for years!
Jazz Vespers is held every Sunday at 4pm in our beautiful gothic-style Sanctuary.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
