Joykamp was founded in Vancouver in the fall of 2002.The aim was to put together a band which combined a hard musical edge with deeply political subject matter. Their songs express a dark perception of a world slowly slipping into tyranny. Joykamp never fails to evoke a strong and visceral response in their audiences.
Joykamp recorded a 3-song demo at Turtle studios with Larry Anschell in January of this year. This demo was entered in the Vancouver Seeds competition at 99.3 The Fox and was chosen as one of the 6 Seeds winners for this year.
The band has recently played showcases at New Music West and The Whistler International ski and Snowboard Festival. They are scheduled for several other large events sponsored by Jim Beam bourbon and 99.3 C-FOX radio.
Chris Nelson from Much Music�s Going Coastal picked Joykamp, as a personal highlight of New Music West. The band was subsequently interviewed by Chris as part of an upcoming segment focusing on the Vancouver music scene.
The demo single Hypnotized is in daily rotation on C-FOX, and continues to be a heavily requested song according to the D.J.�s.
C-FOX personality Trace Ventura recently referred to Joykamp as Vancouver�s angriest band fronted by Vancouver�s angriest man.
Todd Hancock another C-FOX on air personality often comments that Joykamp is an awesome band to see live. They have been featured live on the Rock report and on Indy night in Canada.
The band is currently involved in a development deal with 604 records in Vancouver, and is managed by Dan Erison at Alert Music in Toronto.
Joykamp is currently in studio recording an E.P. and will be playing shows in and around Vancouver for the rest of the summer.
