In this project, Norwegian pianist/composer/producer Bugge Wesseltoft brings together artists who record for his Jazzland label. Jazzland’s music (like Wesseltoft’s) is unique in the way it embraces the liberating potential of dance music—mixing and matching European techno, drum n’ bass, house, ambient, and jazz improvisation in a manner that clicks with club culture yet is welcomed by open-minded jazz fans. The all-star cast dubbed “Jazzland Community” is a who’s who of the Scandinavian music scene. Award-winning singer/poet Sidsel Endresen has worked in a wide range of musical genres including pop, contemporary classical, multi-media performances, choral music, and solo voice. Her collaborators include Nils Petter Molvaer, Django Bates, and Helge Sten. Monster saxophonist Hakon Kornstad leads the exciting electro-jazz group Wibutee. Kornstad’s concept of “open minded music” embraces the acoustic and the electronic. Brilliant nujazz guitarist Eivind Aarset is a regular member of Nils Petter Molvaer’s band. His debut CD Electronique Noir was hailed as “one of the best post Miles (Davis) electric jazz albums” by the New York Times. Bassist Marius Reksjo and drummer Wetle Holte round out this stellar aggregate.
