Koan
In Zen Buddhism, a koan is a nonsensical question asked of a student, meant to bring the student to awareness through contemplation. This group of Vancouver musicians and composers are exploring a dialogue between varied cultural experiences and artistic practises, both composed and improvised. The result is an exciting mix of sounds ranging from ethereal Chinese ballads to Middle Eastern melodies and boisterous ethno-jazz-rock-fusion jamming. With Jin Zhang erhu, Zhongxi Wu suona/sheng, Brad Muirhead trombone, Jared Burrows guitar/accordion, Tommy Babin bass, Pepe Danza percussion/shakuhachi.
