Nancy Fraser originally learned to make pottery over 40 years ago in a 500 year old farmhouse in Tuscany. It was an idyllic setting surrounded by olive trees and grape vines that were, at that time, cultivated by a farmer guiding a plow pulled by white oxen. The remains of an ancient aqueduct were visible in the distance from the window of the pottery studio where she spent many hours developing her skill. Who could fail to be inspired in that setting?
In 2006 she returned to Victoria where she has revisited her love of ceramics and pottery making.
She specializes in functional and decorative stoneware where her fluid and casual approach to design communicates her admiration of how nature despite its imperfections is somehow still perfect (wabi-sabi).
