Laird Campbell
Laird Campbell was born in Glasgow, Scotland, arriving in Montreal to work in Exhibition and Display during the World's Fair, Expo'67. Since then he has exhibited works in photography, glass, bronze, paper, canvas, and mixed media. For the past two decades Laird has worked with salvaged wood.
The process is of assembledge. By cutting pieces of wood, then arranging, recutting, and re-arranging, Laird constructs images, fractal compositions which give a resonance of the faimilar. Once assembled, he begins to work the surface. The finished piece is preserved with a thin layer of wax.
In 2011, Laird began transferring the imagery of his wood constructs onto paper in limited edition prints.
