An interview with the luckiest drummer in Vancouver, Tony Dallas

Getting asked to go on tour to Europe and then to the States with one of Canada's fastest shooting stars of a band, Fan Death, is pretty awesome. But what makes this opportunity spectacular is that Fan death is touring as an opening act for Vampire Weekend and all the concerts are sold out.

The Skinny: When are you going on tour and for how long?

Tony Dallas: I leave next thurs til mid-april (except for few days im back in march)

The Skinny: How do you know FAN DEATH?

Tony Dallas: I think I met Dandi once but Kevin from fsrz (Fake Shark Real Zombie) referenced me to them

The Skinny: I didn't know they have a live drummer - I thought it was a drum machine and looped music. So, your going to play Veronica's Veil and all of that? Are you practicing with them?

Tony Dallas: Well, they've never have but since the spot is opening up for Vampire Weekend they thought it'd be foolish not to have live drums so ive pretty much learned all their stuff in less than a month but it sounds really filled out now.

The Skinny: Talking with your other bands, they are a little worried that you will never come back, that you will be the toast of the town in Paris and play the fashion runways and go out with models. If this happens, you won't forget where you came from? Do you promise to come back?

Tony Dallas: Haha, I most certainly promise to come back, all my stuff is here haha

The Skinny: Why do drummers play in so many bands? (Tony plays in something like 7 bands)

Tony Dallas: It could be the fact most of them are replaceable if they're really simple but you gotta add you own flavour to be distinguished from the rest (ex mars volta drummers jon theodore and thomas pridgen are great examples, 2 totally different styles but still able to complement the same band.)

But I guess I have what Jessica Simpson had, hahaha, cause the first real band I played in (called airships attack) were a really talented group of people and committed to the band so much i turned down a few musical opportunities and in the end the band broke up so after that pretty much anybody who asked me to play in their band, I just said yeah but I do it for the love of the music.
