Spring - As Feelings Go/Recreation Time (1969)

Enjoy this great debut double-sider by Vancouver's famous Psych-rockers: Spring. The B-side Recreation Time makes it's YouTube debut!

I'm unsure exactly if this single was released in the last months of 1969 or first months of 1970, information is hard to come by. I do know their sophomore single "A New Day/She's A Woman" (also on Coast Records) was released in April/May 1970.

Regarding "As Feelings Go/Recreation Time" it's been mentioned that earlier versions (considered by the band to be superior to the one ultimately released) were recorded but there was some issue with the tape and it had to be redone. This would be assumed to be mid-to-late 1969, need clarification.

Spring was a band comprised of some of the top studio session players in Vancouver. Robert Buckley and Terry Frewer had degrees in music from the University Of British Columbia. Their earliest recordings appear in 1969-1970. They recorded a pair of tracks for The Cool Aid Benefit Album followed by 2 singles on Coast Records, 'As Feelings Go' and 'It's a New Day'.

To Garage band enthusiasts, these early recordings are the band's most appealing records. However, they are best known for their top 40 hit song 'Country Boy Named Willy' which was produced by Terry Jacks and released on London Records in 1971. The B-Side is a Santana-esque samplers dream with an unfortunate name 'Pressed Ham'.

Following a second single on London Records, the band traveled down to Los Angeles to work on an album at A&M studios which was never completed. In 1973 they recorded an extremely rare 4 song EP for CBC Radio Broadcast. Their final single 'I wish I could forget' was released on Mushroom Records in 1975.
