Background:

Don Schmid, just off the road with his band The Northern Pikes and singer-songwriter Dave Tic were in Schmid's Saskatoon basement studio working on a new song in the mid 90s. They had a bass line and a drum rhythm written and tracked for the verses.

Brent was in the session and plugged in. He played a simple three chord pattern as a suggestion for the chorus. Dave instantly came up with a vocal melody and lyrics for the chord pattern. Dave went on to craft his signature lyrics and the song Bobby Joe was born.

Don recorded the song featuring himself on drums, Dave Tic vocals, Kevin Macza on bass, and Brent Truitt on guitar. Soon after it was released on the one and only Non Happners album. The album was considered by Virgin Records but ultimately passed on for lack of radio potential.

The full album is available on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mMnXtWIxCi-Fjgil3PAq3XrnmonHeMHjs under the name "The Happners" - not sure who posted it with this name yet.

Since that time Brent went on two release two solo albums which are now under the band name East Van Eye with co-writer John Lisi of Saskatoon. New album releasing in 2020.

Don Schmid returned to the Northern Pikes and is still recording and touring with them. Their most recent album entitled, "Forest of Love" - https://www.youtube.com/user/thenorthernpikes
