MIDI SYNC is hosted by Garden City Electronic Music Society and the Copper Owl.
This is the 5TH night in this series. MIDI SYNC performances include a local cast of curated synthers carefully navigating the maze that is MIDI technology. An educational experience for players and non players alike.
How it works:
- 8 players take one MIDI clock signal to sync to their gear
- then players are randomly selected in pairs to jam out 20 min pieces
- once the first round of 20 minute performances are complete, performers are then placed in randomly selected groups of 4
- master jam! all 8 musicians work together to create one sonic masterpiece
The set up is open concept on the dance floor so that spectators can observe how each player is putting together their sonics using various types of hardware, drum machines and synthesizers. Each player is available to answer questions about their setups and chat about how they approach MIDI. If you're curious about hardware MIDI tech, this event is for you. Also lots of cool gear to check out as performers bring purchased hardware and machines that they have built. This is a strictly a no laptop, no ableton affair.
Performers are chosen based on their sonic palette and experience with MIDI equipment. The evenings music although unpredictable in nature will delv into the experimental and psychedelic sonic spectrum as well as encompassing anything from ambient soundscapes to minimal/glitch/downtempo/house electronic beats.
As usual there will be super rad projections.
Here is the first round of performers, more tba soon!
Grayson Caligari aka Sex Death Religion
Jro J Schuurman aka Psychic Pollution
Craig Joseph Huxtable aka Landscape Body Machine
Richard Quirk aka Richard Quirk
Sara Gold aka Sara Gold
Cindy Desmarais aka Cindy Reichel
It's only $5 at the door which is super cheap considering the massive talent usually involved.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
