SPECIAL GUESTS NIKASAYA FROM JAPAN AND GOH NAKAMURA FROM SAN FRANCISCO PERFORM AN INTIMATE EVENING CONCERT AT CHAPEL ARTS AS PART OF THE 35TH ANNUAL POWELL STRET FESTIVAL.
NIKASAYA (Japan) is the freewheeling vocal duo of Saya Onodera (from Tenniscoats) and Nikaido Kazumi. In 2005, the duo released its first album Ipiya (HEADZ) as "Nika Soup & Saya Source," and their second album, One Summerheim (Someone Good/Room40), in 2009. Nika is known for her chameleon-like ability to transform her voice, while Saya has a melancholic and straightforward singing style. Both have distinctive voices that can be identified immediately, but when they sing in unison, they create melodies that are truly sublime and hold a childlike innocence.
Goh Nakamura is a San Francisco musician who writes ditties about parking tickets, impossible crushes and faraway dreamlands. With one foot in the traditional troubadour world and another in the digital age, he performs at venues small, large, and virtual, to an enthusiastic and ever growing audience. A fortuitous 2007 feature on YouTube's front page brought his music videos over a million views and earned him a huge new fan base from all over the world. Goh's talents have also found a home in the film industry. Goh's vocals and guitar work are featured prominently on the scores to Ridley Scott films A Good Year and, most recently, American Gangster. His song "Daylight Savings" is included on the soundtrack to the Robert Benton film Feast of Love, starring Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear.
This event is part of the 35th Annual Powell Street Festival, held in Oppenheimer Park and surrounding venues on July 30th and 31st. More information at http://www.powellstreetfestival.com.
