John MacArthur January 1, 2014
John MacArthur, known for his masterful performances at jazz venues in and around Victoria, is also recognized in local music history as a key member of several iconic musical groups. At thirteen, John joined the Esquires one of Victoria’s first rock and roll bands. They entered a ”Vancouver Island Battle of the Bands” during the 60s and won. By age sixteen, he was playing in David Foster’s first rock & roll band, the Teen Beats and throughout the 60s and 70s John played in a succession of groups including: The Motifs, Amor de Cosmos, and Velvet Brass. In 2008, John was inducted into the Victoria Music Hall of Fame for "Most Influential Band (1960-1965)" as a member of the Motifs. Currently John's guitar stylings are appreciated around the globe. Each year, John performs with Melinda Whittaker in Costa Rica and at several local venues as a soloist and with various top musicians. Other musical bands that include him are: Twango, Karmel Sutra, Hot Rod Lincoln, Davey’s Gang, and The Weeds. Our thanks to Jerry Adolphe and Brian Eccles for the updates.
