A History of Music May 14, 2013
In July of 1889, the first 3 of 5 brothers Aaron, Fred, and James Parfitt immigrated to Victoria from Carlingcott England. They paid for part of their passage crossing the Atlantic by entertaining the passengers playing music. This was repeated when they crossed Canada by train and upon arriving in Victoria, created some of the town's earliest choirs and orchestras. Today's picture is the Parfitt Family Choir taken in 1931 with their trophy from the Madrigal Festival. Our thanks to John Graham and Harry Creech for the updates. Photo from the Parfitt Family Collection.
