The Dishrags January 1, 2013
Starting out in a family home on the Saanich Peninsula, they were originally called "Dee Dee and the Dishrags" named after punk rocker Dee Dee Ramone of "The Ramones". Beginning with a mix of covers and originals, they played what may have been Victoria's first punk rock gig at the Surfside Cabaret in 1977. They would later relocate to Vancouver, dropped "Dee Dee" from their name and became one of Canada's premier artists in underground music during the late 1970's. Our thanks to Don Denton, Kim Haigh-Wright, Alain Milette, Doug Grant and the Parfitt family archives for this month's updates.
