Thunderbird Peace Festival November 1, 2012

Today's picture is one of three tickets donated to the Royal City Music Project archives for the "Thunderbird Peace Festival", September 6 & 7,1969, at the Capilano Indian Reservation, Vancouver, BC. Lineup for the show included: Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, The Steve Miller Blues Band, Country Joe & the Fish, The Youngbloods, James Cotton Blues Band, Buddy Miles Express, Collectors, Pacific Gas & Electric, Southwind, Fields, The Band, John Mayall, Taj Mahal, Sly & the Family Stone, Spirit, Albert Collins, Sweetwater, and Crow. Artist "Bob Masse" was contracted to draw the poster which is displayed in his collection to this day. The date was 3 weeks after "Woodstock" that drew 500,000 people to that once sleepy New York state town. So what happened? The story we received from the donor of the tickets was that when it came time to pay deposits on artists and other related expenses, there was not enough money to cover them so the event was cancelled. Too bad, that could have been a world renowned event right here in our backyard. If you have any stories related to this non event that you would like to share, please post them in the "Guest Book" on the website.
